Moving and Handling Training

Consultant & Registered Osteopath

Alan joined us in 2013 and is our Leeds based Moving and Handling Training and Risk Assessment Consultant. Please view Alan's client testimonials below. Outside of Osteopathic Solutions Alan runs his own private Osteopathy practice. Away from work Alan enjoys cycling and camping with his family, sometimes at the same time!

'' I am a practising Osteopath and I diagnose and treat musculoskeletal disorders caused by manual handling on a daily basis. This gives me an advantage over ‘general training professionals’ as I can talk about actual examples of common manual handling injuries from practice. I am essentially a practical person and always look to give workable solutions to solve manual handling real world problems.
I have a wide range of experience in both Manual Handling and Moving & Handling of People settings; from Manufacturing sites, Warehousing, Refuse Depots, Food Factories, Schools, Fire & Rescue Services to Care Groups and Private Hospitals.
I love the job satisfaction I get when attendees who really don’t want to be on the course actual enjoy it and can apply what they’ve learnt in a practical way! ''

What did you like most about the course?

Everything included in the course was relevant, well delivered and very useful. If I was to pick something though I would say the practical elements as it is always useful to listen to someone else's perspective and practice.

Did the course meet your expectations concerning content & quality?

Definitely; the best update course I have attended and organised for the trainers who teach moving and handling.

Can we make improvements to the course structure, organisation & presentation?

Cannot think of anything I would change as the company and the trainer Alan Reed listened to my pre course comments regarding items we didn’t need to cover and hence did not include these topics.

What areas does our trainer need development in teaching delivery?

I’ve been delivering training for at least 20 years for Anchor Trust and I cannot think of one thing I could suggest that Alan Reed needed to develop.

Anne Watters, Operational Trainer North
Anchor Trust

The trainer Alan Reed was great. He taught in such a way that we thought through the processes of injury and why we adopt better moving and handling techniques. This made the process easier to understand and I really feel the ideas ''clicked'' in my head!

E Ibbetson, Physiotherapist

Excellent delivery with good background information.

I really enjoyed the course. Alan Reed was a great Tutor!  I have also recommended Osteopathic Solutions for other BMI hospitals.

Clare Mannion, Clinical Lead Physiotherapist

BMI Healthcare, The Saxon Clinic

The feedback I have received from the 2 staff I sent was very positive. They felt even though they are trainers themselves, they did learn a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the course. The delivery and content was excellent.

I wanted to let you know how impressed I was with the course. Having had this type of training before my expectations were not high but this was so detailed and also hands on, with all potential scenarios covered. I feel confident that my future training will be enhanced by the learning I gained from this course. With this in mind I am keen for my team to all attend your training in the near future and to have your company provide all our training including  our CPD days going forward.

I thoroughly enjoyed the course and found it extremely beneficial.

Helen Bellis

The course was brilliant. Alan Reed is a great teacher with a lot of patience, teaching at several different levels. The Disabled Living Foundation venue in Manchester was great also. Thanks to Alan Reed and Gareth Milner.

Were the joining instructions before the course sufficient & correct?

Yes thorough and informative.

Was the venue conducive to learning?

I nice room for training with all relevant equipment available – venue staff lovely and helpful.

What did you like most about the course?

The practical element was my favourite as I am a practical learner and based on being the only person was able to work things through with Alan and discuss and tailor the training to my needs.I found it mind blowing how people training people to be moving & handling instructors can teach things so differently – I am a conscientious person and it frightened me, thinking that I had been training staff in ways that weren’t necessarily best practice but also not bad practice – I felt much more confident after yesterdays’ training than I have done ever before after this training.

Can we make improvements to the course structure, organisation, presentation & delivery?

Not that I can think of to hand – I learnt a lot and moving forward feel my training will be enhanced based on the practical side.

What areas does our trainer need development in teaching delivery?

Alan was very thorough and approachable – he was also flexible in his approach and was able to adapt this based on my queries.
